One of the first pieces of information that I pass on to those who are new to Astrology is that we are more than our Sun signs. We don't give ourselves nearly the credit that we deserve for existing as complex, multi-dimensional people. Although, there are some who would rather live comfortably in a "one size fits all" world, it's just not goin' down like that. Part of thinking astrologically is having the ability to synthesize smaller bits of information and recognize the pattern of how all of these pieces form a whole. Since I'm an I.T. Recruiter as well as an an Astrologer, I always use a resume as a perfect example:
Just like a birth chart, we tend to look at this piece of paper and come to certain conclusions about an individual. We often make certain observations like : "Oh, he worked for ________, that's a good company." Or, look, he/she held the position of ________, so they must be _______." The Astrological equivalent of that, which I'm sure that some of us have been guilty of is " "Oh, he/she has all of these 12th house planets, yikes !" Or, "Sun AND Moon Square Pluto ? I feel sorry for that guy !"
Finally, after all of our mental pre-game warmups, we finally get a chance to talk with the owner of this chart and resume and guess what? They're the people that make it come alive. We realize that people are more than the colleges that they've attended, companies they've worked for or aspects in their charts. Often times, you run across two individuals who have worked for the same organization. Person A is an optimun performer; a high achiever. Person B is slacking. Going along to get along and occupying cube space as long as the organization will allow. You may have one person living out Sun/Moon Square Pluto as one who has an intense desire for self-awareness, personal and emotional power, and another who may be a charismatic cult leader who is a high level manipulator.
Bottom line: Recruiters reviewing a resume and Astrologers reviewing a chart had best listen to the owner and take the holistic approach.
